An old Godly divine, Andrew Fletcher (1655-1716), said "Give me the making of the songs of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws." Another true statement is "Whoever controls the language of a nation, controls that nation."
The politically correct language now being pushed in America is controlling the direction this country is going. Gender neutral language makes the differences between men and women disappear. The music that is so prevalent now in the U.S. tells what is most important with the people, especially the young people. A current statistic notes that 12% of teens in the 1950s thought of themselves as important whereas now 80% believe that they are important. Today, most pop music is self-centered, emotionally unbridled, sexual, discordant, and loud. This tells much about the heart and soul of a people. Romance, poetry is gone, and in its place is sensualism.
Fletcher’s statement was particularly referring to the Christian music, the classics, that dominated the Christian scene in both America and England. More than we can imagine, those great hymns touched the heart, soul, and spirit of the peoples of both nations. In both countries the great hymns were sung on the street corners by the Salvation Army. Both the saved and the unsaved knew the words and the beautiful melodies that almost became eternal. They certainly were a part of the fabric of the culture. They were familiar to all!
In my opinion we are now moving into what the Bible calls The Apostasy, the falling away from "The" truth. We are into "the departure" from what is right in the broader spectrum of the culture. The West, which means Europe and America, is rapidly dying, both morally and spiritually. The changes in music and language are indicative of this.
Christian music should edify as all that believers do should (1 Cor. 14:26). The music should be doctrinally sound. In opposition to this principle there is now being published a Rock & Roll Contemporary magazine. Some music groups hold what are called a Rock & Roll Circus. Rick Warren’s music team at Saddleback Church features atheist John Lennon’s song Imagine. What makes this so bad is that no one catches on to what is taking place, no one sees the incongruity and the evil as to what is happening in so many churches!
In my opinion, it is too late to make changes. We are in for a very stormy and cold winter, spiritually speaking. Persecution in the West will follow soon! There is no way to turn back the prophesied apostasy we are sliding into!
